Oh... Oh, oh, oh.
This cannot be good.
RGB is so interesting in how he encourages Hero to find answers herself and has faith in her intelligence, and yet he doesn't believe she can do something about the five trees- I wonder what makes him so resolute about that :/
@bad guy? good guy?: Well, they already fixed one tree.
@bad guy? good guy?: Maybe he does think they did it, but he doesn't want hero to know that.
@bad guy? good guy?: Saving the planet from a supernatural cosmic disaster and figuring out a riddle aren't really similarly difficult.
anyone else kinda ship dial and t0by now?? no? just me then okay......
@JJ: buddy the folks over on tumblr have been on that particular vessel for long before this
(ps it's called radio static)
It looks like the lazy bird lost the tin soldier already.
Hold up befor I read this TOby looks real sinister right now and it's hella creepy.
@Jero: Yep I was right TOby looks sinister for some reason also the bird just ate RGB's hand and gained it's power and now it has a foot of hand or......welp this comment just lost meaning.
FOUND YOUR MEANING BRO!
@Jero: Did you notice what the record player thing said to them?
He said "I hope you folks find yourselves soon!"
The bird ate RGB's hand and gained something it lost. It FOUND it a hand!
That's why the market is based on bartering! Everybody is searching for something that they LOST, so they trade something they HAVE for something another person NEEDS to be whole!
RGB also made a point to ask hero about her coat. Now they're in the market to get armor, maybe they're looking for something to make her whole?
Not sure, but I think that's what it is!
@FoundMeaning: Ok so I was just joking about the owl gaining its power and thank you for trying to explain but I didn't need you to explain because I already know what it means.
But thanks anyway. :)
What if they're dead? And they're using body parts to replace their old bodies? As hero said "Well, aren't." Could perhaps mean that that they're dead. I mean, how else could Dial and RGB get such peculiar heads and bodies. Hero forgot her name, so Perhaps that's the first step? It's just an idea here. Dial and RGB probably weren't born with those names (assuming they were human once). Maybe we'll find out in the next update...
@Nobody : also the line RGB said, "this isn't how I died" (or something along those lines)
@Nobody : Your quote combined with the owl panels reminded me of a belief held in some cannibalistic societies: If you eat the body of a dead person, you gain a trait associated with that person.
It seems kind of ominous that the owl ate the hand, then immediately grew it (vs snapping off a part and replacing it like blocks of Legos)
I see, so the owl wanted to use RGB's hand to get its leg back.
@InquisitorSA: Oh! How the heck did I miss that! Good eye. Or should I say, foot ;D
Lol, I wonder if RGB has to swallow a glove to get his hand back? Probs not.
I love the whole mystery of this series god
we know absolutely nothing how am I even so invested.
I'm going to say my random guess and say they're supposed to be something pretty abstract and complicated. I have a feeling they're not "just dead people" or "just dreams"- like they represent something in or from the real world, some sort of concept. Just like the ideas and fears etc. But the thing is, that doesn't necessarily mean they aren't dead people too in order to reach that state. It could be a metaphor on how people are remembered after they die, how they fade into abstract depictions of themselves. Hero isn't dead, like RGB says, because she needs to be alive for whatever Heroes do. So it's very possible RGB said it would complicate things because that would mean she would be just like him- and there must be a reason why he can't be the hero himself. Other than cowardice.
...But the thing is I'm not sure... how the whole changing your body, matching your appearance to your ego and finding yourself thing ties... into death. I imagine you'd stop finding yourself after... you die.
Maybe they're not dead they're just... lost?
I am. So tired. I don't know.
@VintageCandyShop: I like you're take on it!
@Nobody: i absolutely agree!! And to make things even more fun, i'm going to add that Mod confirmed that some characters actually represent things in real life, like julienne representing ballet and TOby being the craft of toys
@Guest: Thanks, and that's really interesting... That just leaves me with even more questions. x)
@Nobody: Thank you!
...just tell me what's wrong."
They're all concepts or ideas? Like, you know how when you get an idea for a picture but it never comes out quite exactly as it was in your head? So what you pictured in your head is kinda floating around here, some parts a bit fuzzy or undefined like ideas are, trying to gradually piece themselves together into what they were meant to look like or become.
And they can be other things that go through your head, like the feeling of a memory, a vague sense at the back of your mind, a half-remembered dream, deja-vu, a new invention, etc.
As for the line "This isn't how I died", well the saying is 'tv killed radio', maybe he was killed by the internet and there's a computer guy waltzing around somewhere representing the concept of the internet and acting all spaztic.
Or maybe he got a glimpse of the future and was like 'Wait, this isn't how the script ends!'
Guys, how could the owl put on the hand if all it had was wings? It needed to swallow it so it would stick.
he needs the hand to clap
theres only one so it can only pat
So I just binge read the series and there's something going on here. A ton of people here already hit the nail on the head with the idea that these are abstract representations of concepts, people, emotion... I'm going to throw my own thoughts into here with my take on it. The series as a whole represents manic-depression (or possibly just life in general). We see recurring themes that lead me to this and here is one of them.
Fear and Dream. Depression often manifests as the lack dreams and the will to achieve them. When we see RGB and Hero fend off the fears in Rushes 25+, he throws dreams at them and they disappear. Those fears that would make you do nothing but stick in a rut, otherwise dead to the world, can be broken by having dreams and hopes. When the Tree (which by the way has a cameo in panel 1, yes panel *1*) from POV was show to be dying or laying dormant, it was revived by touching the blood of Hero. This might be an inspiration to the tree, some kind of jump start, or a reminder of a life it had once had and/or might have again. Later, the tree was revealed to have buried itself in the ***** as a form of protection against feeling, i.e. it did not want to feel the hate, and it gave up all of its feelings to live as a hollow shell. Hey, guess what else is a symptom of depression? Not wanting to feel, and rather living empty and unfeeling (Or, you know, killing yourself and splitting into five parts. But most humans can't do that (Looking at you, Voldemort)). Also on the topic of the Sun and its mask, the depressed often describe pretending to be happy as a mask they must wear.
P.S.: Is there a Reddit for this. This feels like a Reddit thing to post. /r/TPoH (the most logical guess) is mod protected.
lmao i just realized the "eyes" on its wings areactual eyes. sweet.
"tell me what's wrong."
oh. my. god.
I want to slap Toby. I have no idea why, though.
