If you're enjoying the story, or any of the other stories available at then please consider supporting me- there's plenty of TPoH merch available on my society6;

I did try a patreon but it turns out there might be some problems with my being based in the UK, so sorry but I had to close that. Thanks again for all your kind words and patience :D

Assok u saved the tree :D i knew u were good!

Reply science (Guest), February 8th, 2015, 8:05 am

I just noticed that the insulator is forming a myelin sheath around the roots, so wouldn't that help it? EDIT: actually assok is eating the insulator to that shape: if a nerve is entirely covered in an insulator, the signal is smothered, but if there are gaps, the signal is speeded, so assok is really helping

@science: so this is what happens when a nerd who loves both mythology and biology writes a surreal adventure story I LOVE IT

Reply Fairyth (Guest), April 28th, 2015, 9:41 pm

@science: That is exactly hat I thought when I first saw this page. Myelin sheathes! Amazing!

Reply Z.Quill, February 8th, 2015, 2:22 pm

PINK Gorgeous, again. Amazingly gorgeous. The way this comic will leap into different color palettes and styles for a page or two (or even a panel) is one of my favorite things about it. It would keep me coming back to see what was next even if the story didn't.

But the story TOTALLY DOES. I want to know more about the tree, I want to know how RGB, monster of monsters, knows about the tree, I want to know more about dear, darling Assok! Whatever **** is, I want to know how they're going to make it into armor for Hero.

There's nothing about this comic I don't love.

Reply M (Guest), February 8th, 2015, 2:24 pm

So that's why Assok can't speak properly. Remember page 143, where Hero's voice went numb after she bit the insulator? Imagine the same thing over an extended period of time. No wonder Assok is stuck echoing everyone else.

Reply ;A; (Guest), February 8th, 2015, 4:26 pm

@M: THIS MAKES ME SO SAD but it also makes sense? Gosh dang Assok you are badass.

Reply Guest, February 8th, 2015, 7:54 pm

@;A;: This also explains why Assok's speech bubbles were so pale at the beginning, and then progressively got more colorful! Whatever that substance was must have affected these too!
... Wow, I'll never cease to be amazed by all the wonderful little details and creativity in this comic. It's brilliant.

So that is why Assock's voice was not affected by the -----, because he eats it! pg 142-143.

Reply Guest, February 8th, 2015, 9:33 pm

@TheArtfulDodger: Or maybe him eating it is why he has basically been re-learning words over the past while

Support Modmad I would pove to support you, but My parents got parental controls, so this phone wont let me go to that website. However, I wish you the best of luck(in both your life and your art).

Reply AnnaMix (Guest), February 11th, 2015, 8:48 am

Before this page I thaught that Assok tryed to eat out that ------ to let the Tree fly back to the sky. But now it makes much more sense.

Reply Guest, February 11th, 2015, 9:20 am

Just got into my head....the root looks like neurons....the black blank acts like myelin sheaths coating the nerve cells..maybe that helped the flowers to grow further...I mean in a larger area. Just my guess

Reply Emma (Guest), February 12th, 2015, 1:15 pm

Neurons! I just realized the white stuff is an insulator and so is myelin and it took the shape of the myelin sheath on the roots, complete with nodes of ranvier! The roots are metaphorical axons! Yay neuroscience! This is my favorite comic, btw!

Reply nealywilly (Guest), February 12th, 2015, 2:59 pm

That black blank tho... What is the missing word / idea that is being blacked out, I wonder?

From earlier pages: It's an insulator, it's sticky, it's valuable, it can surround you, and you can make armor out of it.

On page 161: "... trapped by the *blank* it had set around itself." and "*blank* is persistent"

Could the black blank be denial or one of it's many forms: delusion (the denial of reality), ignorance (the denial of truth or at least of the things you know and are capable of sussing out - like when you just don't wanna know because of the implications of knowing), despair (the denial of hope, including being worthy of hope), stubbornness (the denial of the real limits / futility / inevitability)?

By the way stubbornness is very close to ignorance - it is knee-jerk, bullheaded, tit-for-tat, and less concerned with the other side of what it's butting its head against or why. Do not confuse it with perseverance, which is driven by hope or at least work ethic.

Whether willful or not, denial and its many forms can and do have value and can even be self preserving.

Maybe my sub-denials are off a bit, but it's the only thing I can think of that people don't like even though it can be useful.

Reply nealywilly (Guest), March 2nd, 2015, 10:52 pm

edit Re: armor @nealywilly: Upon rereading from beginning, I see now that RGB said he could EXCHANGE the white stick stuff for armor - NOT use it as armor, so now I think that for the black box LIMITS makes more sense than my case for denial.

Shows how quicksilvery my opinions are.
